Barkstall Weekly Family Message

Important Information:


If your student is going to be absent for their live instructional time, you must call Barkstall at 373-5580 to excuse their absence.

Hispanic Heritage Month is September 16th-October 15th.  Barkstall will be engaging in a digital celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month on the following Friday’s:  October 2 and October 9 during student’s ELA live instructional time.  Here is a flyer for a community celebration.


Independent Work:

Parents - When your student is not in live instruction with his/her teacher, the student needs to be working on independent assignments each day.  To see the assignments, go to your student’s Google Classroom and information will either be posted in the Stream tab or Classwork tab.  If you need help on how to access or complete assignments, please reach out to your child’s teacher.

Kindergarten Health Information:

If you  have a kindergarten student the following documents are  needed by October 15th:

Birth Certificate

Physical (dated within 1 year)


Eye exam (within 1 year)

Dental exam (within 1 year)

Immunizations are: DTP (or DTaP), Polio, Hep B, MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Varicella (chicken pox).


Library Book Drop-Off:

If you have a library book that your student did not return, you can drop off anytime at Barkstall Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.



Here are some ways you can help support the Barkstall PTA throughout the year.  The money raised through these programs helps support PTA initiatives, such as classroom supplies for teachers and materials for the library.

  • Amazon Smile -  Amazon Smile gives a percentage of your eligible purchases on Amazon to the Barkstall PTA.  Simply browse to to associate your Amazon account with the Barkstall PTA, and start shopping!  Just remember to always go to when shopping, any purchases using the regular Amazon URL ( will not count!

  • Box Tops -  The Box Tops program is now all digital!  Simply download the Box Tops app on your phone or tablet, and scan any receipts with items that have the Box Tops logo.  Our PTA will be credited, and you don't have to cut out anything!  For more details, see this link:  You must scan your receipt within 14 days of purchase, so remember to scan as soon as you shop.

  • Coca-Cola Give -  Turn your Coca-Cola product purchases into donations to the Barkstall PTA. To donate, visit, select VERNON L BARKSTALL ELEM SCHOOL and scan or enter product codes from participating Coca-Cola products. Get started today!


Student Support Centers:  Available to help parents and students for the 2020-2021 school year.

Locations:  Garden Hills, Stratton, and Bottenfield

Hours:  Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.   Friday  9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Support Centers Can:

  • Give tech support

  • Get students logged in

  • Sign families up for food distribution

  • Assist in registration

  • Chromebook distribution

  • WiFi assistance

Food Distribution Plan:

Families will have two options to get meals:

Option 1) Go to drive-thru site with no pre-order

Option 2) contact Food Service 217-351-3852 directly to be added to the

at-home delivery list.

Drive-thru sites will be open Mondays 10am-1 pm at Booker T. Washington, Garden Hills, and Jefferson Middle School.

At-home deliveries will be done on Fridays between 10-11 am

The District will provide 5-day meal boxes similar to what was done since Spring

2020 COVID 19 school closures.
