Champaign Unit 4 Schools earned the 2019 Art Education Program of the Year honor as selected by the Illinois Art Education Association (IAEA). Unit 4 will receive its award at the 2019 IAEA Conference, held Nov. 22 at the Q Center in St. Charles, Ill.
Champaign Unit 4 art teachers balance being practicing artists and excellent art educators. The program currently features 21 art teachers with a combined 213 years of service to Unit 4 students.
The Champaign Unit 4 Finance Committee seeks to increase community/stakeholder awareness of finance issues and provide an opportunity for informed, representative feedback
The committee will meet at least quarterly to discuss budget sources and uses, the tax levy, borrowing and audit matters and the financing of matters of equity and capital construction. The committee will also discuss funding of proposed new, continued and discontinued programming along with select major purchases and contracts.
Another Centennial High School student has received the Boy Scouts of America's highest rank. It's an achievement only a small percentage of boy scouts can tout.
Jordan Alexander is part of Champaign Troop 1310 and through his commitment, received the Eagle Scout Award.
In order to achieve Eagle Rank, Alexander had to meet several requirements, including earning at least 21 merit badges and completing a service project.

Centennial High School student, Connor Whittington, has earned the highest rank in scouting, the Eagle Scout Award. It's an achievement only a small percentage of boy scouts can tout.
Whittington is part of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 9. He will be recognized at an Eagle Court of Honor Ceremony on Saturday, Aug. 10.
The Centennial High School and Jefferson Middle School archery teams earned some bragging rights at this year's NASP Championship Tournament held in Nashville, Tenn. on July 25-27.
Stratton Academy of the Arts will host the Parent and Family Learning Lab on Monday's during the 2019-20 school year. The program is part of the District's Community Schools initiative and is for kids and their adult family members. The learning lab will focus on math, reading, english or technology.
Champaign Unit 4 is collaborating with the Carle Mobile Health Clinic to decrease barriers families may have in accessing healthcare. New this year, Unit 4 is offering families the opportunity to shuttle over to the mobile health clinic during school registration day on Friday, Aug. 2.
The mobile clinic will be parked outside Centennial High School from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will offer physicals and immunizations. The clinic will see students regardless of insurance or ability to pay.
Students still in need of a physical and/or immunizations can visit the Mobile Health Clinic at Booker T. Washington on Friday, July 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The clinic provides non-urgent services for infants to adults. No appointment is necessary.

This summer, Champaign Unit 4 high school students who elected to be a part of the Summer Trades Program gained real-world experience in on-the-job work across various trades.

Inductees were nominated by a Hall of Fame committee and will be the third class inducted since the honor originated.

Andy O’Neil Tabbed as Unit 4 Director of Special Education effective July 1, 2019
Sikich, a respected forensic accounting firm, was engaged to review Unit 4’s P-Card policies and procedures, analyze P-Card transactions and supporting documentation, and interview relevant staff to determine if current P-Card practices align with best practices and effective internal controls. The report details Sikich’s investigation into this matter. The report provides recommendations designed to reduce the District’s risk of waste, fraud, and financial mismanagement and to align processes with best practices.
At the Board of Education meeting on Monday, June 10, 2019, the Board approved multiple administrative appointments:
Champaign Unit 4 School District will be offering free to the public, historic brick street pavers that have been excavated from the vacated portion of Park Ave. The excavation is part of the construction work to make way for the expansion of Central High School. The pavers will be available at the east end of the former YMCA parking lot at 500 W. Church Street from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning June 10, 2019 for any interested parties to collect, salvage, and self-load and haul away. The pavers will be available for a limited time on a first-come-first-serve basis.
